The DPS Police Department has arrested a Prairieville man and charged him with 3rd Offense DWI. According to an affidavit, a DPS Officer came upon a vehicle that was partially in the roadway Sunday morning around 1:54am. The vehicle appeared to be disabled from a flat or missing tire. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, James L. Jenkins, 47, Carolyn K. Drive, Prairieville, the investigating officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol. Jenkins was also having a difficult time with his balance and had glassy, bloodshot eyes, according to the affidavit. Jenkins was asked if he had anything to drink that night and he replied that he didn’t. After observing Jenkins for a moment the officer attempted to give Jenkins a standard field sobriety test, which Jenkins refused. Jenkins was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. While being handcuffed, Jenkins refused to turn around and comply causing the officer to use force. Once handcuffed, Jenkins continued resisting and trying to pull away from the officer. A search of Jenkins’ vehicle turned up a 16oz can of beer that was still cold, according to the affidavit. Jenkins was transported to a nearby DPS Police Station where he refused a chemical breath test. He was then booked with 3rd Offense DWI, Resisting Arrest and Open Container. He was taken to EBR Parish Prison where he is currently being held in lieu of a $27,500 bond. Follow Us @RedStickNow
