Baton Rouge Police have arrested 55-year-old Alvin Thomas, 5660 Packard St and charged him with 3rd Offense DWI. According to a report, Thomas was stopped for failing to signal while making a turn on September 4th around 2:45pm. The report also indicated that Thomas’ Lincoln entered the wrong lane after making the turn onto Monarch Dr. After stopping and contacting the driver, the officer stated Thomas was displaying symptoms of intoxication and had an open can of Budweiser beer  in the vehicle. A standard field sobriety test was conducted which Thomas was unable to perform. Thomas was taken for a breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content (BAC) to be .325%. In Louisiana drivers over the age of 21 found to have a BAC of at least .08 or greater can be charged with DWI. Thomas’ BAC was greater than 4 times the legal limit. A criminal history check conducted by the officer showed that Thomas had been arrested prior for DWI on June of 2000, May 2001,  May 2004 and December 2012. Officers booked him with 3rd Offense DWI,  failure to signal while turning, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a vehicle, improper lane usage, operating a vehicle while driver’s license is suspended for a prior offense and reckless operation. This report from The Advocate shows Thomas was arrested and charged with 4th offense DWI back in December of 2012. There was no indication as to why this incident was treated as his 3rd offense. He was transported to the EBR Parish Prison where he is currently being held on a $26,500 bond.
